Nevada Mesothelioma Attorney

As ranked according to the data collected by CDC in 1999, Nevada is the 31 st state with the highest death rate resulting from Mesothelioma. With this account, we can say that not too many people have been affected by Mesothelioma in Nevada. However, people here still need to be on their guard as Mesothelioma has the tendency to occur even 50 years after being exposed to asbestos. The only reason for this disease is exposure to asbestos.

Mesothelioma is a very rare cancer, however with passage of time, it is estimated that the coming years, more than 100,000 American will die of this disease. It is important to realize that people who work in asbestos related industries, they should wear protective clothing and masks which will prevent them from inhaling asbestos particles and fiber. Being a very aggressive and vicious disease, it can kill a person within a year of being diagnosed.

The most vulnerable areas of the body where Mesothelioma can attack are pleura or lining of the lungs or peritoneum, the lining of the stomach. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are some of the ways to treat this disease but only when discovered on time. There is no cure for this deadly disease, only prevention can save you. People working in construction, ship building, dockyards and asbestos mines and mills can be at greatest risk for Mesothelioma. As there were no workplace standards before 1980’s, most of the cases of Mesothelioma resulted in this period.

Families and loved ones of the people working in asbestos industries should know that they can also develop Mesothelioma from inhaling the dust from the clothes, shoes and hair of the affected people.

Mesothelioma in Nevada

Since 1979, more than 153 people have fallen victim to asbestos illnesses in Nevada. Out of this number, more than 100 people were victims of Mesothelioma. It was due to 484 shipments or 37,213 tons of vermiculite which was sent to Libby, Montana to 5 locations in Nevada during 1948 and 1993. The largest amount was sent to Overton while Las Vegas, Gerlach and Empire also received vermiculite. The Overton plant is currently under investigation by the government for the storage of asbestos. Also, it is important for people who worked at the plant as well as those living in nearby areas to get them selves checked for Mesothelioma. Early detection may increase the chances of effective treatment and full recovery.
