GASTRIC CANCER - TYPES, CONDITIONS, SYMPTOMS AND CURE
Stomach is a part of the digestive system and is located in the upper abdomen between esophagus and the small intestine. If the cells in the stomach lining begin to grow and divide more quickly and form clumps, it may lead to tumor formation. If these tumors become cancerous, they can kill the healthy tissue of the body and lead to cancer.
Gastric cancer is the abnormal growth of cancer cells in the lining and walls of the stomach. Gastric cancer can also spread to the esophagus and small intestine as well as lymph nodes and other organs if not taken care of on time. In most cases, gastric cancers are adenecarcinomas that occur in the lining or mucosa of the stomach.
Types of gastric cancers
Different types of gastric caners can occur depending upon the cancerous growth of the cells; adenocarcinoma is the most common one. It takes place in the digestive tract and largely occurs among men over 40 years of age. This type mostly takes place in the upper part of the stomach where it connects to the esophagus. Some types of gastric cancers are:
Adenecarcinomas
or cancers which occur in the lining of the stomach.
Squamous cell carcinoma
, characinoid, is another type of gastric cancer. Adenecarcinomas and other malignant epithelial tumors also start forming in the stomach.
Lymphoma
is a type of stomach cancer with Stoma tumors of the stomach. Other types include neuroendocrine tumors and Sarcomas.
Symptoms of gastric cancer
- Symptoms of gastric cancer resemble those of stomach ulcers or viral infections. People with these symptoms should be referred to a gastroenterologist who may diagnose gastric problems.
• Indigestion or heartburn
• Pain or discomfort in the abdomen
• Nausea and vomiting
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Weakness and fatigue
• Bleeding in stool or vomiting
• Trouble swallowing
• Excessive belching
Causes of gastric cancer
Diets high in salt and nitrates and low in vitamins A and C increase the risk of gastric cancer. Foods preserved by smoke, salt and pickling can cause gastric cancer.
Lack of clean water and refrigeration causes gastric cancer along with the inflammation of stomach. Deficiency of vitamin B-12 can cause gastric cancer also. People with type A blood are vulnerable to gastric cancer.
Various conditions for gastric cancers
• People who smoke excessively
• Family history of gastric cancer
• Obesity is a condition which eventually leads to gastric cancer
• Occupational conditions such as working in rubber and coal industries or polluted environment
• Infection with H pylori bacteria
• Pernicious anemia which affects the lining of the stomach
• Atrophic gastritis when the stomach lining wastes away creating conditions for gastric cancer to develop.
Cure for gastric cancer
Gastric cancer can be cured with the help of controlled diet and lifestyle changes. Excessive salt intake has to be reduced accompanied by high intake of fruits and vegetable. It has been suggested that eating foods with beta-carotene and vitamin C may help prevent and cure gastric cancer.
If you have a chronic reflux disease, it should be treated as delaying treatment may lead to gastric cancer. Boiled and steamed foods that are easily digestible should be preferred.
Gastric cancers cannot be reversed entirely. With proper medication and care, they can be reduced to a minimum and a normal life can be spent by adopting a healthy lifestyle. |
